The waves in December to January should be fun and small, probably in the waist to chest high range. Surf conditions will be good with light to variable winds. So should be very good especially if you're a beginner. I would recommend staying by el tunco or el sunzal. They're right next to each other. El Sunzal is a famous wave in the area and an excellend beginner to intermediate wave with long rides of over 100 yards. El Tunco is a small fishing village with several reasonable and a couple upscale accommodation options. The coast there is beautiful and beach is clean and pristine, it's safe with good food options, although El Tunco is a very small village so there's not much else to do.

I am going to El Salvador to visit my family in December to January, I plan on escaping for a few days to the beach and hopefully catch some surfing. My family wants me to take them to Costa del Sol and possibly stay there for the night. Do you know anything about the surfing conditions there? I am a beginner and live in Canada so needless to say i don't get to see qualtiy wAVES, or any waves, very often. Where is agood place to go that will be fun for my family and a decent place for me to get some surfing in.

Cheers
