I just had a friend of mine who longboards and surfed over there for two weeks and loved in. Scored incredible waves. Padang is an epic wave (think pipeline) but when it's smaller is a great longboarding wave. Bali and Indonesia have some of the most consistent surf in the world and when it gets big there's always smaller waves to surf on the island. Bingin pennisula is where a lot of the good waves are: Uluwatu, Padang, Balangan, and Jimbaron. It's crowded but if you surf on off tides you can score out there. Balian is out to the west and is a long pointbreak with hardly any crowds.

Overall, it's a very cool place with a great surf scene. If you've got that long you should definitely check it out. Otherwise I would suggest Costa Rica or Peru.

...still worth the trip if you're an intermediate surfer who prefers chest to head high longboard waves? I'm taking a 2.5 month leave of absence starting in late aug and want to take my surfing to the next level, but not expecting to be dropping into big barrels anytime soon!
