we saw it get pretty decent size, solid 10-12 faces, but because of the wave shape you don’t really need any more than standard shortboard and a step-up (6’8″). if it gets much bigger than that you’re going to think twice about paddling out at most of the breaks. also as it gets bigger, the guide usually knows spots better protected than the bombies. the waves are too fast and hollow for anything much bigger. the waves over there did snap 3 of our boards so definitely bring at least 3 – 2 standard short boards and a step-up board.

Heading to N. Sumatra this October…I’m very stoked!

I’m wondering what boards/quiver you found most useful on the trip? I’d personally prefer to ride a 6’5 (all rounder) but I hear that this area can get pretty thick & juicy and snapping boards is fairly common.

I would hate to travel that far and find myself undergunned.

If i’m thinking of bringing 3 boards, what would you reccomend?
